Welcome to the Blog!

We’re excited to welcome you to the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum (BIHM) Blog. Given recent circumstances, finding new ways to communicate virtually has become a necessity. We hope this new platform will allow us to connect in a new way and provide a space for controversial thinking, questioning of assumptions, and multiple points of view. As the blog develops, you will hear from BIHM staff members and occasional guest writers as they take you behind the scenes to explore what’s happening at the Museum.

Founded in the 1930’s, BIHM has always been committed to documenting, preserving, and sharing the unique history of Bainbridge Island. Our collection of cultural material is extensive and gives insight into the people, events, issues, places, and stories of the island’s collective past. Ultimately though, we are much more than our physical collection. We aim to spark curiosity, inspire people to connect, and challenge them to explore different perspectives.

Last year, BIHM adopted a new Mission, Vision, and Values to assume a more active role in the community. This blog will provide space for us to demonstrate our values of integrity, collaboration, curiosity, experimentation, and visitor-centered, as we work to promote a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive museum experience.

Our team looks forward to sharing ideas about our work, insights into the collection, ways you can get involved, and so much more with you here. We hope the blog’s flexibility will allow you to explore what interests you most and help make meaningful connections between history and your own life.
