Notes:
William Renton, born on November 2, 1818, in Pictou, Nova Scotia, a small sawmill and ship building town. William Renton emigrated to the United States at age 18 becoming a ship officer on the merchant ship the Harriet Rockwell in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
In 1852 at age 33, Captain Renton made his first trip to Puget Sound. Seeing the large amount of virgin timber he recognized that the area was a great place for a sawmill.
